Super Typhoon Ragasa Moves Away, Hong Kong Downgrades Warning After Record 11-Hour Alert

Super Typhoon Ragasa has moved away from Hong Kong, prompting the Hong Kong Observatory to downgrade the warning after a day of severe weather. The city had issued its highest warning yesterday, which remained in effect for nearly 11 hours. It was the second-longest duration in Hong Kong’s history.
 
 
The typhoon brought torrential rain, with some areas receiving 200 mm of rainfall by early afternoon. The Fire Services Department reported 393 cases of fallen trees and one mudslide.
 
 
Public transport services are being gradually restored. Chief Executive John Lee assured the public that repair efforts would continue overnight to ensure minimal disruption to today’s morning commute and warned of continued poor weather.
