Tripura ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das emphasized infrastructure, productivity, and farmer support in a high-level virtual meeting with Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and S.P. Singh Baghel, highlighting collaborative efforts to strengthen India’s animal resources sector and rural development.

Tripura’s Minister for Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD), Sudhangshu Das, participated in a high-level virtual meeting on Monday. The meeting was hosted at the Secretariat Conference Hall and brought together key policymakers, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), Minister of State S.P. Singh Baghel, and senior ARDD officials.

The session was convened to deliberate on strategic initiatives to advance the Animal Resources sector, with a particular focus on productivity, infrastructure, and farmer welfare. The presence of Union and State representatives emphasized the collective effort to accelerate reforms in this crucial area, which is not only vital for rural development but also a cornerstone of national food security.

Minister Das Calls for Infrastructure Development

During his intervention, Minister Sudhangshu Das stressed the urgent need for infrastructure development within the animal husbandry sector. He pointed out that outdated facilities often limit efficiency and productivity, hindering the growth of farmers and livestock owners. Upgrading veterinary hospitals, breeding centers, and fodder production units were highlighted as essential steps to modernize the sector and provide reliable services to rural communities.

Das also spoke about the importance of adopting scientific practices and innovative methods in animal husbandry. According to him, the integration of modern breeding techniques, disease management systems, and nutrition programs can significantly improve livestock productivity and ensure that farmers derive sustainable income from their efforts.

Productivity and Farmer Support in Focus

The minister placed particular emphasis on productivity enhancement. He noted that while India has made considerable progress in dairy, poultry, and livestock farming, many regions still face challenges such as low-yield breeds, inadequate fodder supply, and limited access to veterinary care. Addressing these bottlenecks, he said, would require both policy reforms and ground-level implementation of welfare schemes.

Equally important, Das underlined the necessity of timely support mechanisms for farmers and livestock owners. He highlighted that many small and marginal farmers often struggle to access resources, financial aid, and veterinary services. Strengthening cooperative models, expanding credit facilities, and ensuring on-time government assistance were discussed as critical steps to safeguard farmer livelihoods.

Strengthening Rural Development and Food Security

Minister Das reminded participants of the animal resource sector’s pivotal role in ensuring food security and driving rural development. Livestock farming, he argued, is not just an economic activity but a way of life for millions of rural families. Its contribution to income, nutrition, and employment makes it a vital component of India’s agricultural ecosystem.

Calling for stronger Centre-State collaboration, Das urged the Union government to extend greater financial and technical support to states like Tripura, where livestock rearing plays a major role in supplementing rural incomes. He stressed that collective efforts would be necessary to unlock the full potential of the sector.

Union Ministers Reaffirm Commitment

The presence of Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and MoS S.P. Singh Baghel lent weight to the discussions. Both leaders expressed their commitment to boosting the sector through policy reforms, financial backing, and capacity-building initiatives. They also assured that the government would work closely with state departments to ensure smoother implementation of welfare schemes for farmers and livestock keepers.

The meeting concluded with a consensus on inter-governmental coordination and the exploration of new avenues to empower livestock farmers. The focus will now be on rolling out strategic programs that improve productivity, expand infrastructure, and ensure equitable distribution of benefits across regions.

Minister Das’ Reflections

Sharing his thoughts after the meeting, Minister Sudhangshu Das remarked:

“Attended a virtual meeting at the Secretariat Conference Hall in the august presence of Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan Singh Ji, Hon’ble MoS Shri S.P. Singh Baghel Ji, along with officials from ARDD. In the meeting I discussed various issues and prospects related to the development of the Animal Resources sector, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving productivity, and ensuring greater support for farmers and livestock farmers.”
