A deeply disturbing incident has come to light in Kailashahar after a mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped inside the premises of a hotel near the Kailashahar Court complex. The incident, which has shocked local residents, reportedly occurred on September 14 and 15 inside the Taj Hotel, raising serious questions about safety and security in public spaces.
According to reports, the woman had been staying on the first floor of the Taj Hotel when the assault took place. Disturbing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which has now been shared locally, shows the accused youth sexually assaulting the woman while she was sleeping. The graphic video has left the community outraged, with many demanding swift action from authorities.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the video was first seen by a local tea-stall owner, Gulzar Hussain, who then shared it with others in the area. Court employee Hassib Ali was among those shown the footage. Speaking to reporters, Ali described the content as “extremely disturbing” and confirmed that the accused’s face was clearly visible in the footage.
“The youth clearly took advantage of the woman’s vulnerable condition. I immediately informed the women’s police station and demanded strict action,” Ali told reporters.
The identity of the accused, however, has not yet been officially established. Police sources confirm that an investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to trace the suspect. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of the footage and collecting evidence to strengthen the case.

Once identified, he will be booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges of rape and exploitation of a mentally challenged individual.”
The official further stated that investigators are working to ensure the safety of the victim, who remains under trauma following the incident. Psychological counselling and medical assistance are expected to be arranged for her.
