Agartala Municipal Corporation to clean and repair major city roads ahead of Durga Puja. Mayor Dipak Majumder ensures collective efforts of all departments for smooth traffic, cleanliness, and hassle-free festive celebrations for lakhs of visitors in Tripura’s capital.

Preparations for the grand Durga Puja celebrations in Agartala are in full swing, with the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) announcing a comprehensive plan to clean and repair all major city roads to ensure hassle-free movement of people during the festivities.

On Monday, Dipak Majumder, Mayor of the AMC and MLA from 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency, said that the civic body is prioritizing the beautification and cleanliness of city roads ahead of the Puja season. He emphasized that lakhs of people travel to Agartala from remote corners of the state and beyond during the festive period, and their convenience must be ensured.

“Lakhs of people reach Agartala city from far-flung areas to enjoy the festive fervour. The Chief Minister has instructed us all to make sure that no one should face any inconvenience during the Puja celebrations. The traffic movement must remain congestion free. Due to the ongoing construction works and persistent rain, some roads are not in good shape. The pace of the work couldn’t be increased due to the weather conditions,” Majumder explained.

Departments Working in Synergy

Highlighting the collaborative efforts being made, Majumder said that a high-level meeting was convened to chalk out the action plan. The meeting was attended by CEO Smart City Sailesh Kumar Yadav, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, AMC Commissioner DK Chakma, and representatives from all key departments.

“All the major departments, including Urban Development, AMC, and all line departments, shall work in synergy to ensure that people don’t face any inconvenience during Puja days,” the Mayor noted. He reiterated that collective responsibility is crucial in maintaining the festive spirit and ensuring that the celebrations are not hampered by infrastructural issues.

Focus on Cleanliness and Safety

With heavy rains and ongoing infrastructure projects affecting the condition of several roads, the administration has decided to focus on immediate cleaning and repair works rather than starting new projects. Majumder clarified that no new developmental projects would be initiated at this point, as the priority is to prepare existing infrastructure for the festive rush.

The AMC and allied departments have already started identifying key stretches of road that witness the maximum footfall during Durga Puja. These include main roads leading to popular Puja pandals, market areas, and entry points to the city. Special teams will be deployed to carry out cleaning drives, remove debris, and streamline traffic arrangements.

Officials also stressed that the initiative will not only help in reducing traffic congestion but also contribute to enhancing the overall festive atmosphere in the city. Clean roads, proper lighting, and smooth traffic management are expected to provide a pleasant experience to both residents and visitors.

Public Cooperation Essential

While the administration is gearing up with an extensive plan, officials also appealed to the citizens to extend their cooperation in maintaining cleanliness during the festival. The civic body has requested people not to litter roads, especially near Puja pandals and marketplaces, and to follow traffic guidelines to avoid unnecessary congestion.

Durga Puja, the biggest cultural and religious festival in Tripura, draws lakhs of devotees and tourists every year. The city of Agartala becomes the hub of celebrations, with colorful pandals, artistic idols, cultural programs, and processions bringing vibrancy to the state capital. Against this backdrop, ensuring clean and accessible roads has become a top priority for the administration.

Final Preparations Underway

The AMC, Urban Development, Smart City authorities, and other departments are now working round the clock to complete their tasks before the official start of Puja festivities. From cleaning clogged drains to repairing potholes and setting up traffic diversions, multiple initiatives are underway.

Mayor Majumder concluded by saying that the government and administration are united in their efforts to ensure a smooth and joyous Durga Puja experience. “We are leaving no stone unturned. People from across Tripura and beyond come to Agartala to enjoy the Puja celebrations. It is our responsibility to make sure that the festive spirit remains unhindered and that everyone has a safe and joyous experience,” he said.
