Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he reached key understandings with U.S. President Donald Trump on ending the Ukraine conflict during a meeting in Alaska last month. Speaking at SCO summit in China, Putin stopped short of confirming whether he will join peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which Trump had reportedly proposed with a Monday deadline.
Mr. Putin defended Russia’s actions, blaming the West for instigating the conflict by backing a 2014 coup and pushing Ukraine toward NATO. He said the crisis was not triggered by Russia’s attack but by Western interference. He described the Trump talks as a possible step toward peace, though tensions remain high following Russia’s second largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began.
