Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that India can become an energy-exporting nation if the production and use of biofuels and green hydrogen are increased. Mr Gadkari was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Bioverse’ initiative in Pune yesterday to mark World Biofuel Day.
According to Gadkari, the biofuel revolution will play a crucial role in reducing imports and boosting the rural economy. He noted that it is no longer viable to depend solely on sugar production but the sugar industry should focus more on ethanol, biofuels, and green hydrogen. He also stressed the need for more research into producing clean fuels like green hydrogen from agricultural produces. The Minister said Agricultural waste will be converted into biofuels, including Bio-CNG and Bio-aviation fuel anf this will turn farmers into energy suppliers. He urged industries to prioritize the production of alternative biofuels alongside traditional products.
