Pakistan to begin repatriation of 1.3 Million afghan refugees from September 1

Must Read

The Pakistan government has announced that the formal repatriation and deportation of over 1.3 million Afghan refugees holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards will begin on September 1. This follows the expiration of PoR cards on June 30, which rendered holders unlawful residents, according to the Interior Ministry.  In a letter to provincial authorities, the ministry outlined the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP). It stated that voluntary returns can begin immediately, while formal deportations will start next month.

The Ministry of Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON have been directed to share PoR cardholder data with provincial, divisional, and district committees. Provincial governments are instructed to map PoR cardholders and create detailed repatriation plans. These include setting up transit centres, arranging transport, and ensuring financial support for the process. Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Steering Committee met on Monday. It directed NADRA and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to fully restore transit points at Peshawar and Landi Kotal.
