A solar flare of M2 level, strongest in past 1.5 months recorded on Sun

Must Read

A solar flare of M2 level, the strongest in the past 1.5 months, was recorded on the Sun yesterday. The flare was detected by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. While the flare’s location lies along the Sun-Earth line, scientists have stated that, at present, there are no signs of solar material impacting Earth. The last larger event was observed on June 20, when an X1.9 flare occurred. Solar flares are classified into five main categories based on their strength, which is measured by the peak flux of soft X-rays emitted, namely A, B, C, M, and X, with X being the most powerful. Each category represents a tenfold increase in energy compared to the previous one.
