BJP Janajati leaders visit Asharamari in Tripura’s Khowai district after Tipra Motha’s violent attack during PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat. Seven BJP workers were injured. Leaders demanded strict action and expressed solidarity. CM Manik Saha warned of zero tolerance toward political violence. Three arrests made so far.

In the aftermath of the violent attack in Asharamari, Khowai district, a high-level delegation of BJP’s Janajati leaders visited the affected site on Wednesday under the direction of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The visit comes in response to the assault reportedly carried out by Tipra Motha workers during the public broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat program on Sunday.

The delegation was led by MLA Rampada Jamatia and comprised prominent figures such as Cabinet Minister Santana Chakma, former MP Rebati Tripura, senior party leaders, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of District Council (MDCs), and the State President of the BJP Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha. The leaders visited the residence where the Mann Ki Baat program was being shown and where the attack took place.

During their visit, the BJP leaders expressed solidarity with the families of the injured party workers and condemned the violent incident. They assured the victims of full support from the party and the government and stressed the need for swift and decisive action against the culprits.

The violence, which broke out during the peaceful gathering to listen to the Prime Minister’s monthly address, left seven BJP workers injured and caused significant damage to property, including the vandalization of several vehicles and two-wheelers. According to local reports, the attack appeared to be a premeditated attempt to disrupt the event and intimidate BJP supporters in the area.

After visiting the victims’ homes, the BJP delegation met with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khowai district and demanded strict legal action against those responsible for the violence. They urged the police administration to take a zero-tolerance stance against political violence and to ensure justice for the victims.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who has been closely monitoring the situation since the day of the incident, had personally visited three of the critically injured party workers who were referred to GBP Hospital for advanced medical treatment. In his public statement, Dr. Saha issued a stern warning, stating that his government would not tolerate such acts of political violence under any circumstances. He emphasized that law and order would be upheld firmly across Tripura.

As of now, three Tipra Motha workers have been arrested in connection with the Asharamari incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured that all individuals involved will be brought to justice.

The BJP’s visit and show of solidarity are being seen as a significant political message in the tribal-dominated region, especially given the growing tensions between the BJP and the regional Tipra Motha party. The Asharamari incident has further strained the relationship between the two parties, with BJP leaders accusing Tipra Motha of encouraging lawlessness and resorting to violence for political gain.

Party insiders say the BJP leadership is determined to take a firm stand on the issue to prevent similar incidents in the future and maintain the sanctity of democratic political engagement in the state.

The visit of the Janajati leaders, including several from the indigenous tribal communities, also signifies the BJP’s attempt to consolidate support in tribal areas and counter the influence of Tipra Motha, which has gained traction in recent years on the back of tribal autonomy demands.

As the investigation continues and more arrests are likely, all eyes remain on how the administration will handle the situation and whether stricter legal steps will be taken to prevent such political violence in the future.
