The stars expressed deep gratitude and admiration for the soldiers who continue to safeguard India’s borders with unwavering courage.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil conflict. This year, Bollywood’s most prominent actors took to social platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook to offer their homage to the martyrs and their families.
Akshay Kumar, known for his patriotic roles and connection with the armed forces, shared an emotional message:
“Unn sabhi veero ko shraddhanjali, jinhone hame yeh azadi, yeh garv aur shanti di. Jai Hind.”
(Tribute to all those heroes who gave us this freedom, pride, and peace. Jai Hind.)
Ajay Devgn, whose performances in films like Tanhaji and Bhuj have celebrated India’s military and historical valor, wrote:
“Jaha maut bhi kaanp jaaye, waha hamare Hindustan ke jawan khade hote hai.”
(Where even death trembles, there stand the brave soldiers of our Hindustan.)
He added, “Remembering our bravehearts today and every day.”
Sidharth Malhotra, who played the role of Captain Vikram Batra in the widely acclaimed war biopic Shershaah, tweeted:
“To the countless brave hearts who stood tall so we could sleep safe & sound, your spirit lives on in every heartbeat of a proud and graceful nation. Saluting your sacrifice, today and always. #KargilVijayDiwas.”
Suniel Shetty, remembered for his patriotic performance in Border, added a powerful message:
“The war may be history, but their bravery is eternal. Saluting the courage that echoed through the mountains of Kargil. Forever indebted to the real heroes who gave us victory and kept the Tiranga soaring high with blood, grit and glory. Jai Hind.”
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana took a poetic route to express his admiration and grief. His moving poem read:
“Desh ka harr jawan bahut khaas hai,
Hai ladta jab tak shvaas hai,
Parivaron ke sukhon ka karawaas hai,
Sheheedon ki maaon ka anant upvaas hai,
Unke baccho ko kehte suna hai –
Papa abhi bhi humaare paas hai! Papa abhi bhi humaare paas hai!”
He concluded, “Salute to the heroes who protect us and the families who stand behind them. #KargilVijayDiwas.“
Veteran actor Anupam Kher also joined the chorus of tributes by saying:
“On #KargilDiwas #TeamTanviTheGreat SALUTE the #INDIANARMY. Jai Hind!”
The Kargil conflict, fought from May to July 1999, was a high-altitude warfare campaign waged by Pakistan’s army and intruders occupying Indian territory along the Line of Control in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir (now Ladakh). The Indian Armed Forces, with unparalleled courage and strategic brilliance, launched Operation Vijay and succeeded in reclaiming all the occupied positions.
More than 500 Indian soldiers laid down their lives during the conflict, and Kargil Vijay Diwas is a solemn reminder of their sacrifice. As ceremonies were held across the country, including at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, these tributes from Bollywood echoed the nation’s collective gratitude.
