The nation is paying homage to Captain Vikram Batra on his death anniversary, marking his supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered the supreme sacrifice made by Captain Vikram Batra. In a social media post, Mr Singh said his unmatched bravery and sacrifice during the Kargil War remain a glorious example of courage in the service of the nation.
During the Kargil War in 1999, Captain Vikram Batra led his Company to successfully capture strategically important Pt – 5140, in which he had daringly neutralised four enemy personnel. In yet another battle to capture Pt 4875, Captain Batra displayed the most conspicuous courage and valour in the face of the enemy and achieved a near-impossible mission. In this operation, he led the assault and neutralised five enemy soldiers at point-blank range and pressed on the attack despite sustaining grievous injuries. Captain Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra Posthumously.
