Bollywood star Aamir Khan joins Rajinikanth in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action thriller Coolie as ‘Dahaa’. Featuring a stellar pan-Indian cast and high-octane story on gold smuggling, Coolie releases worldwide in IMAX on August 14. Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth reunite after 38 years in this Sun Pictures production.

The makers of the highly anticipated action thriller Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, have unveiled Bollywood icon Aamir Khan’s character in the film. On Thursday, Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, announced on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that Aamir Khan will be playing a cameo role named Dahaa in the movie.

Sun Pictures shared a stylish poster of Aamir Khan’s character, which shows the actor exuding a rugged charm while smoking a pipe. The caption read, “#AamirKhan as Dahaa, from the world of #Coolie. #Coolie is all set to dominate IMAX screens worldwide from August 14th.” This announcement has stirred excitement among cinephiles and industry watchers, given that this marks a rare cameo by Aamir Khan in a Tamil-language mega project.

Just last week, the makers also made headlines by changing the title of the Hindi version of the film from Majdoor to Coolie: The Powerhouse, aligning the branding across languages. The movie is slated for a grand release in IMAX format on August 14, ahead of the Indian Independence Day weekend—a prime slot for box office success.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his stylish and gritty storytelling, Coolie promises to be a standalone action-packed thriller centered around gold smuggling. While Lokesh is known for his interconnected Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) featuring films like Kaithi and Vikram, he has clarified that Coolie will remain outside of that shared universe.

Apart from Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan, the film boasts a stellar pan-Indian ensemble cast, including:

  • Nagarjuna (Telugu cinema)

  • Upendra (Kannada cinema)

  • Soubin Shahir (Malayalam cinema)

  • Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR (Tamil cinema)

The film’s massive appeal lies not just in its cast but also in its symbolic reunions. Coolie will mark the return of Rajinikanth and veteran actor Sathyaraj together on-screen after nearly 38 years. The two legendary actors were last seen sharing screen space in the 1986 Tamil blockbuster Mr. Bharath, where Sathyaraj portrayed Rajinikanth’s father. Notably, Sathyaraj had previously declined roles in Rajinikanth’s iconic films like Sivaji and Enthiran, making this collaboration even more significant for fans.

The technical crew for Coolie is just as impressive. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who has a proven record of delivering blockbuster soundtracks, especially in Rajinikanth films. The cinematography is handled by Girish Gangadharan, known for his visually arresting work, while Philomin Raj takes charge of editing duties. The film is bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the prestigious Sun Pictures banner.

With a high-stakes story centered on crime, smuggling, and intense character drama, Coolie is shaping up to be one of the biggest South Indian cinematic events of the year. Its cross-regional star cast and strategic release date indicate that the film is being positioned not just as a Tamil blockbuster but as a pan-Indian cinematic experience.

As fans eagerly await more teasers and trailers, the reveal of Aamir Khan as Dahaa adds another layer of intrigue to the project. Even in a cameo, the Bollywood superstar’s presence is expected to add gravitas and box office weight to an already power-packed production.
