13 killed in Russia school shooting

At least 13 people were killed, including seven children, in a shooting at a school in the Russian city of Izhevsk on Monday, TASS news agency reported, citing the Russian Investigative Committee.

According to the committee, 14 children and seven adults were injured in the attack at the No. 88 school located near the city administration building of Izhevsk, the capital city of western Russia’s Udmurt Republic.

It was reported earlier that nine people were killed and about 20 others wounded in the shooting.

The shooter committed suicide and his body has been found, the committee said, adding that he was wearing a black T-shirt with Nazi symbols and a balaclava.

His identity remains unclear as he had no documents on him.

The school has 982 students and 80 teachers, and they have been evacuated.

The governor of the Udmurt Republic declared three days of mourning beginning on Monday.

15 killed in Somalia suicide attack

: At least 15 people died and over 10 were injured when a suicide bomber of an Islamist group detonated explosives outside a military recruitment office in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu, Goobjoog News portal reported on Sunday, citing sources.

According to the sources, the suicide bomber joined the line alongside other young people who came to the military recruit office. The bodies of 15 people were found at the scene of the blast, with more than 10 others sustaining injuries.

Al-Shabaab radical Islamist group (banned in Russia) claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the Somali Guardian news website, the terrorists said the suicide bombing killed 32 recruits, another 40 were injured.

This is the seventh terrorist attack in Somalia over the past 24 hours, the military said.

Al-Shabaab, which is affiliated with al-Qaeda terrorist group (banned in Russia), has been waging an armed struggle against the government of Somalia and is still controlling large areas in the southern and central parts of the country.

In May, the United States decided to renew strikes against the group’s positions in order to combat the growing threat that al-Shabaab poses to US partner forces.

24 killed in Bangladesh boat capsize

At least 24 people were killed and several went missing after a boat capsized in Karatoa river in Bangladesh on Sunday, police said.

The  boat was overcrowded with passengers. It capsized around afternoon while returning from a Hindu temple on the other side of the River Karatoa at Boda area in Panchagarh district, said local police chief SM Sirajul Huda, according to Al Jazeera.

The incident occurred in a spot which is 468 km away from the capital Dhaka.

“The bodies of 16 people including women and children have so far been retrieved,” Sujoy Kumar Roy, an officer of Panchagarh’s Boda Police station, told Xinhua earlier.

Boat mishaps are frequent in Bangladesh killing hundreds every year.
