Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has said that India will soon mandate the use of Indian Standard Time – IST across all legal, commercial, and digital systems. He said, rules will be notified shortly under the Legal Metrology Act. Chairing a Round Table Conference on Time Dissemination in New Delhi today, Mr. Joshi emphasized upon the strategic significance of the Time Dissemination Project being implemented in collaboration with CSIR-NPL and ISRO. He said that this initiative will significantly enhance forensic investigations and bolster cyber audit capabilities, strengthening India’s digital resilience. The Minister underscored that precise and uniform dissemination of IST across sectors such as financial markets, power grids, telecommunications, transportation and others is essential to ensuring fairness, accuracy and national security. This milestone marks India’s strategic shift towards time sovereignty, technological independence and digital resilience under the guiding vision of One Nation, One Time.
