India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Northeast India today and rainfall activity over the region over the next seven days. The IMD predicted thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds and lightning over Northwest India in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today. Thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning are also expected over East and Central India in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till Sunday. Similar conditions are likely to prevail over South Peninsular India in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka over the next two to three days. The IMD also predicted heatwave conditions over Odisha till tomorrow and West Rajasthan from the 7th of this month.
 
In Arunachal Pradesh, over 33 thousand people have been affected due to incessant rain across the state. Many interior villages stay disconnected due to road blockades caused by flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain. In Dibang Valley District, Athunli village has been identified as the worst-affected area, where several houses and agricultural fields were completely washed away by floodwaters. The disaster has left many families homeless and displaced. Dibang Valley District Administration is also making attempts to deliver food supplies by drones to those stranded in Mawali village across the Taloh River
