In the biennial election held for the lone Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), 78.57 per cent of votes were recorded yesterday. Out of the 112 voters, 88 exercised their right to vote in the two polling stations set up at the GHMC headquarters. Out of the total 112 voters, 31 were ex-officio members, among whom 22 exercised their right to vote. Out of 81 GHMC corporators, 66 exercised their right to vote.
 
The contest was between Dr N Goutham Rao of the BJP and Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi of the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The ruling Congress did not field a candidate while the opposition BRS had asked its corporators to abstain from voting. The ballot boxes were brought to the reception centre with security and were stored in the strong room. The counting of the votes will take place tomorrow.
