Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha said a Dental College would soon come up in Tripura.
“At present there are two Medical Colleges and state government was actively considering to set up the Dental College” said the Chief Minister who himself is an eminent maxillofacial surgeon. Dr Saha was speaking while flagging off on Sunday a rally for Orthodontic awareness organized by the Indian Orthodontic Society in collaboration with Indian Dental Association, Tripura State Branch. The rally was flagged off from Ujjayanta Palace main gate.
The Chief Minister who also holds the Health portfolio said, health care sector of the state in general and the branch of Dentistry in particular had sjown remarkable development in the past four years even as specialist doctors in various branches of Dental Surgery including Orthodontics were being inducted. Now patients can avail better medical services in the state itself and did not need to go outside the state for many a dental and other problems.
Other than the Chief Minister, Dr Srikrishna Chalasani president IOS, Dr Sridevi Padmanabhan IOS secretary, Dr Partha Roy Choudhury president IDA Tripura State Branch, Dr Sajal Nath Secretary IDA Tripura State Branch along with huge number of Dental Surgeons from different parts of Tripura remained present at the program.
In another programme at Durgabari Tea Estate where the Chief Minister inaugurated state’s first gas based tea processing centres ,he said the state government was contemplating to export Tripura tea to Bangladesh besides setting up of a Tea Auction Centre in the state. Once a Tea auction centre came up the Tripura tea estates would not have to send tea to Assam or West Bengal for auction- it could be done here only.
“Tripura has a century old history of tea production. Now Tripura has 58 tea gardens–42 of which are individually owned, another 13 are run by cooperative societies while three are run by the TTDC. Besides, there are nearly 3,000 small tea growers in the border state”.Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited (TTDC) Chairman Santosh Saha, Local MLA Krishnadhan Das, Sila Das, Chairperson, Bamutia Panchayat Samiti, Gopal Chakraborty, Advisor of Durgabari Tea Workers Co-Cooperative Society Ltd and other were present in the inaugural programme. Saha presided over the programme.
