Spectre of Covid spread looms large over Tripura as the total infected stands at 75 with 32 new cases being recorded on Saturday. According to official statement on July 09 a total of 531 samples were tested  of which 32 came positive. And the posittivity rate stood at 6.03 percent. Of them 16 were from West Tripura district and 11 from Sepahijala district. Three positives werev reported from Gomati and one each in Unakoti and Khowai districts.

This was a massive surge in covid positivity as only on Friday six persons were found Covid positive.

The rise in the figure is steadily turning alarming as the there appears to be a gradual rise in Covid cases- most affected among all the districts being West Tripura district followed by adjoining Sepahijala. Many anticipate that after the massive crowd gathering in Kharchi puja the figure will shoot up and may create  a severe situation if the restrictions and Covid norms are not put in place immediately and with all seriousness.

Only a day before on Friday officials said, the new six cases have been reported from two districts- West Tripura and adjoining Sepahijala. While there are five new Covid patients in West Tripura one has been reported from Sepahijala. There are no reports of new infections in the remaining six districts in the state. On Saturday Gomati, Khowai, Unakoti were also affected.

So far the state government has not come out with any directive or appeal to follow the Covid norms and restrictions by the citizens. People are still moving around without mask or the use of sanitizers has also visibly reduced. Physical distance is also not being maintained in the public and open places like that of markets, political, cultural, religious , wedding or other social gatherings.

Officials however have said that the state hospitals and healthcare centres are now well equipped to meet the Covid surge , in case it so happens. Besides majority of the people of the state have already been covered with vaccinations.

“But we cannot remain complecent and shall have to be prepared as the Covid wave is being noticed in other parts of the country”, a health department official said.
