Illegal B’deshis From All Over India Being Deported through Tripura Border after Nationwide Crackdown

In the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, a large-scale nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants has resulted in the detention of as many as 448 Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals are now being deported to their homeland through the Tripura border, according to sources within Indian intelligence agencies, reported Tripura Times.

The report quoting intelligence sources said , special aircraft of the Indian Air Force have been mobilized to transport the detained Bangladeshi nationals to Tripura, the bordering state through which they originally entered India. Intelligence agency sources revealed that more than 480 such illegal immigrants have already been brought to Tripura as part of this ongoing operation.

Covert Operations and Strategic Deportation

According to the Tripura Times report, on Wednesday, a special flight carrying over 148 Bangladeshi nationals landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala. This follows the earlier arrival of over 300 detainees. The entire process is being executed with utmost confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of cross-border implications. According to sources, any prior alert to the Bangladeshi authorities could complicate the process, prompting the Indian government to maintain operational silence.

Illegal Entry Routes and Survival Tactics

Once these illegal immigrants enter Tripura, they typically avoid prolonged stays in Agartala to minimize their risk of detection by local security forces. Tripura, being a small state, allows for efficient tracking of immigrants who attempt to stay longer. Consequently, they quickly move to larger metro and tier-II cities using the state’s extensive railway network. Here, they often find work in construction or other labor-intensive sectors, blending into the local workforce and concealing their true identities.

In some instances, illegal immigrants have been found marrying young widowed women to secure Indian citizenship, a tactic increasingly monitored by security agencies. Intelligence reports also indicate that some of these individuals are linked to terror outfits, heightening the security concerns associated with their presence in the country.

Counteracting the Migration Cycle

Security agencies have observed a recurring pattern where illegal immigrants, after establishing themselves in urban centers, call for their relatives and friends to join them. This cycle perpetuates the problem, leading to a steady influx of illegal immigrants across the border. The authorities are now adopting more stringent measures to track and disrupt this pattern, with coordinated efforts at both the entry and resettlement points.

The current crackdown serves as a stern warning to illegal immigrants exploiting Tripura’s geographical position as an entry point. By strengthening surveillance and deportation mechanisms, authorities are aiming to address both the immediate security risks and the long-term challenge of illegal migration.
