A.R. Rahman to perform live at the Thug Life audio launch on May 24. Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s film promises grandeur, with trailer dropping May 17 and a worldwide release set for June 5, 2025.
The audio launch of director Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated action drama Thug Life, starring iconic actor Kamal Haasan, is scheduled to take place on May 24 at the Sairam College in Chennai. The event is expected to be a grand spectacle with a live performance by Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman, who has composed the music for the film.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Raaj Kamal Films International, Kamal Haasan’s production house, which is co-producing the film along with Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The statement confirmed the revised schedule after the original May 16 date was postponed in light of rising border tensions in the country.
“In recent days, we paused our celebrations to stand in solidarity with the nation. With renewed clarity and respect for the moment, we now resume the Thug Life journey,” the official statement read. It added that the Thug Life trailer will be launched at 5 PM on May 17, while the worldwide theatrical release is set for June 5.
The decision to delay the audio launch was first announced by Kamal Haasan himself. Expressing his support for the Indian armed forces, Haasan had said, “Art can wait. India comes first.” He emphasized that during such times, celebration should make way for reflection and solidarity with those defending the country.
Haasan further added, “As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity. A new date will be announced at a more appropriate time.” The revised schedule now reflects that sentiment, aiming to strike a balance between artistic celebration and national respect.
Thug Life promises to be an epic saga of power, rebellion, and triumph. Kamal Haasan plays the role of Rangaraya Sakthivel Naickan, a powerful and rebellious character. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Silambarasan, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and Abhirami in key roles.
The technical crew is equally impressive with cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran, editing by Sreekar Prasad, and action sequences choreographed by the renowned stunt duo Anbariv.
As fans eagerly await the grand audio launch, the live performance by A.R. Rahman is expected to be a major highlight, making the event one of the most memorable pre-release celebrations of 2025.
