 Even as the four assembly constituencies are all set to witness a multi cornered poll battles on Thursday, the Election Commission has put in place all required measures including blanket security arrangements for free and fair election.

Already prohibitory orders have been brought into force in the poll bound constituency areas and sensitive places. TSR personnel along the policemen have been carrying out patrolling and static duties and surveillance has been intensified. Police are also asked to keep a watch on the known trouble mongers and in cases go for preventive detentions. Borders are also under strict vigil.

There are total 1,88,854 electors—93,567 males and 95,283 females in the by-polls to four assembly constituencies. The by-polls will take place in 221 polling stations—55 in Agartala, 56 in Town Bordwali, 60 in Surma and 50 in Jubarajnagar

Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte in a press meet on Wednesday said, while there will be adequate numbers of Micro observers fanning out in all the constituencies, web casting and videography in all the booths are on cards. Only CRPF personnel will be deployed in the polling stations. There will be 25 companies of CRPF men in the four constituencies. Apart from that helpline numbers will also be there and C-Vigil app will be available for the electors and common people to lodge compliant or inform the Election Commission any incident that will be required to be brought to the notice of the EC. The informant in the C-Vigil will remain incognito.

The EC has also employed four General Observers from outside the state. Partha Sarathi Misra (8837258358) will be in charge of 6-Agartala constituency while Gautam Majumder (8415817304) for 8-Town Bardowali . Vijay Kumar (600924428) will be there in 57-Jubarajnagar and Ashwini Kumar Misra (9402166078) will be stationed in 46-Surma constituency. Four Civil Defence Volunteers Rumen Ghosh, Uttam Bhattacharjee, Parimal Debnath and Subhajit Paul have also been engaged for immediate response in case of any complaints lodged through toll free number 1950. The toll free number will remain operative 9-00 am to 9-00 pm till June 26. Besides, any voter if for some reasons fails to cast his mandate he or she will be able to tender his or her vote by filling up a form.

The idea is to ensure not only free and fair elections but also to ensure that every eligible voter can cast his or her vote fearlessly.

Gitte who was accompanied by IG G K Rao appealed all the electors to cast vote without any fear or worry and help run the exercise in smooth and fair manner.

West Tripura District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan he held a press conference on Tuesday with two Ros Dr Sailesh Yadav and Asim Saha along with SP J Reddy and gave details of the arrangements made for the two seats 6-Agartala, and 8 Bordowali.
In Agartala and Bordowali constituencies out of 111 polling stations 17 were identified as sensitive and adequate arrangements were also made for them.

The by-polls on Thursday assumes significance as it is being viewed as the prelude to the next assembly elections slated for 2023. Poll tension and desperation are already running high as all the political parties have joined the fray with all might.

There are as many as 22 candidates in the by poll this time-six from 6- Agartala and 8-Town Bordowali each and five from 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar each.

Incumbent Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is contesting from 8 Bordowali constituency.
