Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday held a high level review meeting at the secretariat on the overall situation in the state as a result of heavy rains. The meeting reviewed in detail the disintegration of Assam-Agartala National Highway due to natural calamities, the latest progress of repair work at the landslide-hit railway, alternative communication system of Agartala-Kolkata road via Dhaka, supply of daily necessities and submerged situation in different parts of the state including Agartala.
Landslides in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya due to heavy rainfall have disrupted road communication with the state.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Dr. Saha has sent a letter to the concerned Union Ministers informing them of the situation and is keeping in touch with them by telephone so that road communication can be resumed after speedy road repairs. A senior official of the north district of the state transport department had been sent to the affected areas to look into the overall situation at the landslide-hit area of Meghalaya.
In today’s review meeting, special emphasis was laid on the rapid relief and rescue work of the flood victims in different parts of the state including Agartala due to rain for the last two days. The Chief Minister directed the concerned officers to take all necessary measures including supply of medicine in the relief camps. The meeting also discussed the issue of providing assistance to the victims by quickly assessing the damage in the affected areas.
Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister J.K Sinha, Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department Puneet Agarwal, Principal Secretary of the Transport Department L.H Darlong, Secretary In-charge of the Finance Department Apurba Roy, Food Secretary Sharadindu Chowdhury, Secretary to the Chief Minister’s Office Samit Roy Chowdhury and State Project Officer of the Revenue Department Saratchana Das attended in the meeting and briefed the Chief Minister on the overall situation.
