One of the most lauded initiatives of the Election Commission the electors of the age of 80 years and above as well as Divyangajan , who preferred to cast their mandate from home, began voting from home. They cast their votes in postal ballots.

Notwithstanding the inclement weather and unprecedented flood and waterlogging situation as the sky broke with vengeance, the Election department officials visited homes of the septuagenarians and above and also the Divyanga voters to help them cast their votes and ensure that no elector was left behind.

To make the entire process more transparent the entire voting process of every elderly voters ewas conducted the votes with videography. 

Surjabala Saha, mother of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is one among the voters who exercised their democratic rights through postal ballots on the first day. The voting commenced from 8 am and continued till 5 pm. 

The process will continue till Saturday. If any voter, who opted for postal ballot voting from home, misses to cast votes in the two-day process, he or she would not be able to exercise franchise in the polling stations. 

This is for the first time that the Election Commission introduced this facility for the 80 plus and Divyang voters in Tripura.

The Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction and congratulated the Election department for the initiative in his social media handle.

This is for the first time such initiative was taken. The elderly voters were overtly happy that they could vote sitting from their bed or the drawing room and they won’t have to stand on the queue under the blazing sun for that matter heavy rains for hours.
