In Bihar, the Budget Session of the state legislature commenced today with the address of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to the joint sitting of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

In his address, the governor said, the government is relentlessly working for the all-round development of Bihar. He said the government has ensured proper representation of women in all sections and sectors. He said reservation is being implemented in Panchayati Raj institutions, Urban Local Bodies and government jobs towards empowerment of women. He added that 34 lakh jobs will be provided before the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as resolved earlier. He also thanked the central government for special sops and financial assistance in Budget 2025-26 for the state.

Earlier, both the houses met on the inaugural day this morning. Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav and Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh addressed members of the respective houses. Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary will present the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on 3rd March. The budget session will continue till 28th March and there will be a total of 20 sittings.

This will be the last general budget of Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the election year. The assembly poll in the state is likely to be held during October-November this year.
