Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday emphasized the use of modern technology and digital initiatives to enhance revenue generation and streamline tax collection in the state. Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘GST Jaagrookta Abhiyan’ at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, he highlighted the government’s efforts to create a taxpayer-friendly environment through improved infrastructure and simplified procedures.

“To increase revenue from various sectors and further improve tax collection, we are actively working towards expanding digital awareness among taxpayers across Tripura,” Saha said. He added that the adoption of modern tools would ensure smoother tax transactions and compliance.

The Chief Minister underscored the importance of taxpayers as key contributors to the state’s development. Referring to the nationwide implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he said the system had significantly improved tax administration.

In the ongoing financial year (2024-25), Tripura’s budget stands at ₹27,800 crore, with the state government collecting ₹3,700 crore in taxes from businesses, organizations, and individuals. Of this, 25% has been allocated to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and 10% to urban local bodies.

Saha also addressed the state’s financial challenges, stating that the previous Left Front government had accumulated loans amounting to ₹13,000 crore. The current administration has also taken loans for developmental projects, loan repayments, and for ensuring timely salaries and pensions.

The Chief Minister announced that the annual budget for 2025-26 will be presented in the State Assembly next month.

During the event, Saha honored top taxpayers and government officials for their contributions. He also launched an anti-fake registration campaign, unveiled a new GST logo, and introduced the ‘Kara Sathi’ WhatsApp chatbot to assist taxpayers with queries and compliance-related issues.
