Among the eight northeastern states, Tripura is set to showcase its vibrant cultural heritage during the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Officials confirmed that Tripura’s tableau will be one of the 26 on display this year, highlighting the state’s ancient traditions and spiritual practices.

The theme of Tripura’s tableau, “Cultural Diversity of India,” centers around the traditional ‘Kharchi Puja’ and its associated rituals. The Kharchi Puja, a century-old festival, worships 14 Hindu deities, including Shiva, Durga, Vishnu, and Ganesha. Originally a tribal festivity, the festival now attracts people of all communities and religions. Held annually in Khayerpur, 8 km from Agartala, the week-long festival is celebrated with grand processions, drumbeats, chanting of mantras, and colorful decorations.

The tableau will focus on three aspects: a blend of tradition and modernity, craftsmanship showcasing the 14 deities using bamboo and cane, and the worship of Ha-Buma (Earth Mother). The design incorporates bamboo and floral elements, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern artistry. A priest in traditional attire will be seen performing rituals, symbolizing the deep spiritual essence of Tripura’s culture.

Tripura’s Chief Royal Priest, Raj Chantaia, traditionally leads the Kharchi Puja with a ceremonial procession and guard of honor by the Tripura Police. The festival is believed to cleanse the sins of mortal souls, reflecting its profound religious significance.

The Republic Day parade will feature tableaus from various states and central ministries, including Goa, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and ministries such as Culture, Tribal Affairs, and Renewable Energy. Each tableau will reflect India’s cultural diversity, technological advancements, and progress.

Tripura’s presentation, with its intricate bamboo craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism, is expected to be a standout, showcasing the state’s rich heritage on a national platform.
