At a National Youth Day event in Agartala on Sunday, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb criticized the CPM for sidelining young leaders and relying on seniority-driven leadership. The program, titled Tarunyar Agrayatra, was organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan to showcase the BJP’s focus on empowering youth.

Deb contrasted the BJP’s leadership model with that of the CPM, emphasizing that his own appointment as Chief Minister in 2018 demonstrated the party’s openness to young leaders. “In the BJP, age is not a barrier to leadership. Even young and dynamic individuals can rise to prominent positions, unlike the CPM, where leadership is dictated by seniority,” he said.

Pointing to CPM veterans like former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Jitendra Choudhury, Deb argued that the party’s outdated approach to leadership has made it irrelevant to today’s youth. He claimed that this disconnect has significantly weakened the CPM’s political influence in Tripura.

Tripura BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya also addressed the gathering, criticizing the Left Front for promoting outdated ideologies during its rule. He praised the BJP’s efforts to nurture young talent, highlighting that many newly appointed Mandal presidents in the state are under 45.

Bhattacharya concluded by reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to fostering a new generation of leaders dedicated to development and nationalism, positioning the party as the preferred choice for the state’s aspiring youth.
