In Manipur, the state will celebrate Khongjom Day tomorrow at Khongjom War Memorial Complex at Khebaching of Thoubal district. Khongjom Day is celebrated every year on the 23rd of April remembering those gallant Manipuri warriors who made supreme sacrifice fighting against the British to protect the freedom of Manipur in the battle of Khongjom during the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War.
The Governor of Manipur La. Ganeshan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh will be attending the celebration tomorrow and they will lead the public in laying floral wreaths at Khongjom War Memorial. This will be followed by a guard of honour, gun salute, offering Tarpon at Khongjom river, and staging of Khongjom War drama.
A large number of public attendance is expected this year as the celebration was restricted for the last two years due to the pandemic. The State Government has arranged for free bus service to transport government employees, the public, and devotees to attend the celebration.
