In US, Georgia’s Court of Appeals has disqualified the Atlanta prosecutor, Fani Willis, who brought an election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump and his allies.

In a 2-1 ruling, the three-judge panel reversed the trial judge’s March decision that allowed Willis to keep handling the case. The court cited her romantic relationship with a lawyer she had hired to assist with the prosecution, raising concerns about a conflict of interest.

The court did not dismiss the case entirely, meaning it can continue with another prosecutor, but the decision puts a pause on the prosecution. This could extend throughout Trump’s presidency.

Trump and 14 of his allies are charged with conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia.

The move follows the recent abandonment of two federal cases against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith and the indefinite delay of sentencing in a separate hush money case after Trump’s victory in November over Vice President Kamala Harris.
