The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have adopted a calibrated plan to expand its footprints in 8 Bardowali assembly constituencies—considered to be the stronghold of Congress leader Asish Saha.

Saha along with Sudip Roy Barman quit the saffron party recently to return to their old party—the Congress inviting by-polls in the constituency.

On Wednesday, BJP state President Dr Manik Saha, also newly elected Rajya Sabha MP, welcomed as many as 200 new voters into the saffron fold at Santi Para which can be seen as a big loss for Asish Saha who is contemplating fighting the by-polls likely to be held in the month of June.

Speaking at the function, BJP state President Dr Manik Saha said, “In a democratic setting, all parties have equal rights to fight for different causes. All parties have the right to seek votes from the electorates but I want to make an appeal to one and all, don’t fall for the false promises”.

According to Dr Saha, the BJP is the only party that cares for all. “BJP stands for the poor. All are equal before us. We work to ensure that benefits reach the last man standing in the queue. Once upon a time, BJP had 1.56 percent of vote share in Tripura with no presence in electoral politics. From there we now have the majority in the state assembly, we have three MPs and in TTAADC there are 10 members from the BJP. This is because of tireless efforts put by the whole team of the party starting from top leadership to the Pristha Pramukhs”, said Dr Saha.

He also urged the party workers to maintain peace in their area. “You will be provoked. On several occasions I was summoned by the central leadership whenever news of any kind of violence reported from Tripura. All our leaders have given us strict orders to prevent our workers from indulging in violence”, Dr Saha added.
