The Left Front-affiliated Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) in Tripura announced on Thursday its participation in the nation-wide ‘Chetavni Rally’ on November 26 to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the farmers’ march to Delhi against the now-repealed farm laws.
Speaking at a press conference in Agartala, Pabitra Kar, a leader of the farmers’ body and former minister in the Left Front government, highlighted the significance of the rally, which marks the historic 384-day protest that compelled the central government to roll back the contentious farm laws.
The SKM, along with the Central Trade Union’s state committee, plans to organize movements across all districts of Tripura, pressing for a 12-point charter of demands. Key demands include legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP) at C2+50% for all crops, repeal of the four labor codes, minimum wages of ₹26,000, and a pension of ₹10,000 for workers aged 60 and above.
Kar emphasized that the rally, termed the ‘Chetavani Jamaat,’ would serve as a warning to the government, providing a three-month window to address the grievances of farmers and workers. He stated, “If no positive steps are taken, we will launch a larger, more robust movement.”
The rally underscores a renewed wave of solidarity among farmers and workers across India, united in their demand for justice and fair treatment from the central government.
