A step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level, Gomati District’s health administration has announced the establishment of a Block Public Health Unit at the Kakraban Community Health Center. This initiative, part of the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, is aimed at improving diagnostic and healthcare services for residents of Kakraban and surrounding areas.

On Friday, local MLAs Jitendra Majumdar and Abhishek Debroy visited the proposed site, accompanied by officials from the Public Works and Health Departments. Sharing the news on social media, Debroy expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister for supporting the development, which he described as a positive move for the region’s public health services.

According to Ranmoy Deb, District Program Manager, the new facility will occupy approximately 1,000 square feet and is a collaborative effort funded by the 15th Finance Commission and the State Government. Future plans include integration with a Laboratory Information System to enhance data accessibility and diagnostic efficiency.

Dr. Jaishankar Majumdar, Medical Officer-in-Charge of Kakraban CHC, highlighted that the center currently serves residents from 15 villages and nearby subdivisions. The new unit, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools like biochemistry and hematology analyzers, spirometers, and more, will expedite diagnosis and treatment at the block level—services typically limited to referral or state-level facilities. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kamal Reang added that similar units would soon be established in other blocks across Gomati, expanding access to quality healthcare for rural populations.
