In a operation, at least 28 Maoists were reportedly killed in an encounter with security personnel in the dense forests of Abujhmad, located on the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred on Friday, with the clash starting between 12:30 PM and 1 PM.

A joint team comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) had initiated the operation from Orchha and Bastar police stations on Thursday. Following the encounter, a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, including AK-47 rifles and Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs).

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj Pattilingam, confirmed the recovery of the bodies of 28 Naxalites. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, took to social media platform X to express his gratitude towards the security forces, praising their “courage” and “indomitable bravery.” He referred to the operation as a commendable success, reiterating the government’s commitment to eradicating Maoism from the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the fight against Maoism would continue relentlessly, promising that the double-engine government would not rest until the issue is resolved. Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured victims of Maoist violence that the government aims to eliminate Maoism entirely from India by March 31, 2026.

Addressing the affected families, Shah reiterated the government’s dedication to restoring peace in regions plagued by rebel activities, urging those involved in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) to abandon their weapons and embrace a path toward peace. The recent encounter underscores the ongoing conflict and the government’s intensified efforts to combat Maoist insurgency in the region.
