In Football U-20 Asian Cup, India defeated Laos 2-0 in its concluding Group G match at the Lao National Stadium KM16 in Laos yesterday. Meanwhile, India has still not managed to qualify for the final round of the tournament.

The Blue Colts squandered a series of scoring chances before finding the net through Gwgwmsar Goyary and Thanglalsoun Gangte to notch up full points. Barring stray attacks by Laos, their goal was under constant siege by the Indian strikers. In the 69th minute, a long ball from Manglenthang Kipgen found Goyary inside the box, who beat the goalkeeper with a grounder. While Thanglalsoun Gangte fired the second goal from inside the box in the 84th minute.

As of now, India is second in Group G with six points and a goal-difference of +4. Below the Blue Colts, are Australia, Kyrgyzstan, United Arab Emirates and Tajikistan. Iraq tops the group with nine points having won all its matches. Australia and Kyrgyzstan need to lose for India to ensure that it reaches the final tournament.
