On Thursday, the state celebrated the 63rd Teachers’ Day, with events held in schools, colleges, and educational institutions to honor the invaluable contributions of teachers. The occasion marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice President and second President, celebrated since 1962.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Santana Chakma, inaugurated the State-Level Teachers’ Day celebrations at Agartala Town Hall, acknowledging the crucial role of teachers as the guardians of cultural values. She congratulated educators for their relentless efforts in shaping a just society. In her speech, Chakma also highlighted the growing challenges faced by teachers and urged them to continue following the ideals of Dr. Radhakrishnan.

Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Department of Education, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the strides made in the state’s education sector, emphasizing the government’s commitment to student and institutional development.

Several notable individuals were honored at the event. Renowned academician Dr. Hare Krishna Acharjee received the prestigious Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman, while philanthropist Dipak Bhattacharjee was awarded the Maharani Tulsibati Samman. Educationist Bandana Chowdhury Barman was recognized with the Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Samman 2024. In addition, 34 teachers from across the state were presented with the ‘Shishak Samman’ 2024.

The event also featured the launch of ‘Shiksha Samachar’ and saw the recognition of Women’s College Agartala and Khumulwng Polytechnic College as the best colleges of the year. Several schools were also awarded for their achievements in green forestry through the Mission 555 initiative. Dr. K. V. Geetha, an Associate Professor at Women’s College, was among the recipients of the Best Teacher Award.
