In response to the severe flooding in Tripura, Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility has been activated in Tripura with immediate effect.
Based on requisition from the state government, the central government has directed all telecom service providers to activate the ICR.
This decision, communicated through the Department of Telecommunications (Disaster Management Unit) under the Ministry of Communications is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted telecom networks during this critical period.
According to the official order, the ICR facility is to be activated until 11:59 pm on August 27, 2024, or until further instructions are issued, whichever is earlier.
The ICR facility, which allows users of one service provider to connect other networks within the same circle when their home network is unavailable, is crucial for maintaining communication during disasters.
The government has also instructed that the ICR facility be extended to all incoming roamers from other states.
Telecom operators, including Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio, and VI, have been asked to prioritize this activation. The letter, signed by Shri Shrpahal Meena, Assistant Director General (DM-A), underscores the urgency of the situation, requesting that this be treated as a top priority.
