On Sunday morning, two Congress Panchayat Samiti candidates from the Krishnapur Assembly constituency were violently attacked, resulting in one of them going missing. The incident took place in the Maharanipur area under the jurisdiction of Teliamura Police Station. The victims, Biplab Sarkar of Maiganga Panchayat Samiti and Asit Biswas of Madhya Krishnapur Panchayat Samiti, were allegedly assaulted by members of a BJP-affiliated bike gang. During the attack, the assailants stole their mobile phones and important documents. Asit Biswas has been missing for since the attack, raising serious concerns about his well-being.

In response, Congress leaders promptly filed a complaint with the Teliamura Police Station, demanding swift action to apprehend the attackers and ensure the safe return of the missing candidate. Shabda Kumar Jamatia, President of the Teliamura Congress, condemned the violence, accusing the BJP of creating a climate of fear and lawlessness. Under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Rajib Debnath and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Panna Lal Sen, the police have initiated a search operation to locate Asit Biswas.

“This attack highlights the prevailing lawlessness under the BJP government. The BJP has consistently suppressed dissenting voices and is now resorting to open attacks on our candidates. We urge the police to act swiftly to find Asit Biswas and bring the perpetrators to justice,” stated Jamatia.

Local residents have voiced their alarm over the rising violence and called for the restoration of law and order in the state. They are demanding that the government take stringent measures against those responsible to ensure the upcoming elections are free and fair.
