The Tripura Pradesh Congress has demanded a High Court-level investigation into the recent violence in Gandacherra, involving a sitting Justice of the Tripura High Court. The call for a thorough probe comes after a delegation from the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, including President Ashish Kumar Saha and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, visited the affected areas on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala, the Congress leaders outlined several demands and concerns:

  • High Court Investigation: They urged for an investigation by a sitting Justice of the Tripura High Court to ensure an impartial and comprehensive inquiry.
  • Victim Compensation: Adequate compensation for the victims was demanded, alongside strict punishment for those responsible for the violence.
  • Police Presence: The leaders called for the establishment of a police camp in the area to maintain law and order.
  • Government Job: A government job for the family of the deceased youth was also requested as a form of support.

Sudip Roy Barman criticized the state police administration and the BJP leadership for their handling of the situation. He questioned the occurrence of such a serious incident despite the presence of the state’s police force and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. Barman also alleged negligence in reporting the damage caused by the recent unrest.

The Congress leaders expressed concerns about the conditions in the relief camps, highlighting that many affected families were not receiving adequate food and shelter. They urged the government to take immediate action to support the victims and criticized Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other leaders for their silence on the issue.

The Congress leaders emphasized the need for a transparent investigation, better relief measures, and accountability from the state administration.
