Indian badminton star PV Sindhu began her Olympic journey with a win by beating Maldivian opponent Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq in a group stage match here on Sunday.
Dominating the show, the Indian icon thrashed her competitor by 21-9, 21-6 margin.
Sindu is one of Indias shining medal hopes.
India had a disappointing day on Saturday when the shooters failed to deliver in the range.
The only hope was Manu Bhaker who reached the final of the womens 10m air pistol event.
Sindhu is currently ranked 10.
She claimed silver at the 2016 Rio Games and bronze at the Tokyo Games.
Sindhu will meet world No. 75 Kristin Kuuba of Estonia in her second group match on Wednesday.
