As Bangladesh continues to remain highly volatile , the return of Indian and Nepali medical students continued on Sunday, with a large group crossing the border back into India. A total of 324 students, including 66 from Nepal, re-entered India through the Srimantapur Land Customs Station (LCS) in Sonamura and the Akhaura border in Agartala.
The returning students received a warm welcome from Border Security Force (BSF) officials, local administration, customs authorities, and the sub-divisional police administration. From the zero point of the border to the land customs office, the students were accompanied by these officials to ensure their safety and comfort. A tent was set up at the Srimantapur Land Customs Authority office, where food was provided to the students.
After their arrival, the students were escorted to Agartala under administrative protection to ensure a smooth journey. Accommodations and meals were arranged for them in designated locations in Agartala. Efforts are being made to secure tickets promptly so the students can reach their homes safely.
At the Srimantapur LCS/Integrated Check Post (ICP), 162 students entered Tripura on Sunday. Among them, the majority were from Jammu & Kashmir (114 students), with others from Tamil Nadu (17), West Bengal (5), Rajasthan (4), Uttar Pradesh (5), Andhra Pradesh (1), Kerala (6), Assam (6), Meghalaya (3), Manipur (1), Tripura (2), Haryana (1), Gujarat (1), and Bihar (2).
Simultaneously, at the Akhaura ICP in Agartala, another 162 students were received, including 86 Indian students from various states and Union Territories. This group included 70 from Jammu & Kashmir, as well as students from West Bengal, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. Additionally, 66 students from Nepal entered the state from Bangladesh via the Akhaura border on Sunday.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure that all students reach their homes safely, with comprehensive support provided for their travel and accommodation needs.
