The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has announced the introduction of “Grid Interactive Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic System under Gross/Net Metering) Regulation, 2024”.

The TERC in a press release said, this regulation aims to streamline and promote the installation of solar rooftop systems across the State, aligning with national policies and addressing local concerns.

The regulation aims to promote renewable energy generation through solar rooftop systems, enhancing energy security and sustainability in Tripura. It addresses the implementation issues of previous guidelines, incorporating feedback from the Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA).

Applicable to all grid-interactive solar rooftop photovoltaic systems with or without Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within DISCOM areas in Tripura, it covers various stakeholders including individual consumers, group prosumers, and third-party investors.

The regulation provides mechanisms for both net and gross metering to facilitate different consumer needs.

Prosumers are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of their systems up to the metering point, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The regulation specifies the eligibility criteria and capacity limits for installing solar rooftop systems, encouraging widespread adoption.

The regulation is set to come into force immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette. DISCOMs are mandated to provide non-discriminatory access and support to consumers wishing to install solar rooftop systems.

This regulation empowers consumers by enabling them to generate their own electricity and potentially reduce their electricity bills. It supports the State’s commitment to sustainable energy and reduces dependency on conventional power sources.
