In a significant boost to healthcare and infrastructure in Tripura, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved Rs. 515 crore for five key projects, with three specifically aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities.

Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha announced this development while inaugurating the National Doctors’ Day program at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Monday. Among the healthcare projects, Rs. 202 crore has been allocated for the construction of Agartala Government Dental College, Rs. 192 crore for a 200-bed Mother and Child Healthcare Unit at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, and Rs. 121 crore for the establishment of a de-addiction center in Bishramganj.

Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare services and transforming Tripura into a medical hub. He reiterated the government’s dedication to providing advanced healthcare services, especially to rural communities, through various initiatives.

During the event, the Chief Minister outlined several plans for improving healthcare services. The IGM Hospital has received approval for 20 DNB seats in three departments under the National Board of Examinations. Additionally, a new digital service, the “Mera Hospital” portal, was launched to enhance service delivery.

The Tripura Institute of Paramedical Sciences (TIPS) has introduced a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course with 40 seats at its School of Nursing. Furthermore, the number of MBBS seats at Agartala Government Medical College has been increased from 100 to 150.

Dr. Saha also commemorated Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, highlighting his enduring contributions to the field of medicine.

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and Special Secretary to the Health Department Dr. Brahmneet Kaur also addressed the gathering. The Director of Health Services, Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, delivered the welcome address, while Joint Director Dr. Souvik Debbarma extended the vote of thanks. Rajib Datta, Tripura Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), was also present.

As part of the National Doctors’ Day celebrations, 10 senior doctors and 5 young doctors were felicitated for their exceptional contributions to the field. The Chief Minister presented them with mementos as a token of appreciation.
