Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “ek ped maa ki naam”—one tree for my mother- the Education department of the state is going to launch the innovative and ambitious a special plantation drive for the school students across the State.
A notification in this regard has already been issued.
According to the notification, the Special plantation drive envisages that each student is required to plant at least one sapling named after his or her mother. Moreover, the student should take care of the sapling throughout the year.
The decision came up in line with the Prime Minister’s initiative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘ Campaign by planting a Sapling of a Peepal Tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
Following the instance of the Prime Minister as well as considering the global climate change -warming and pollution, especially searing heat waves along with unexpected high temperatures due to environmental degradation particularly because of exploitation of nature, the School Education Department has decided to take Special drive of plantation in the Schools, habitations of the Students and also in neighbouring areas of the Schools to protect and preserve our environment. The Special plantation drive in the schools will have several features – in each School, each Student shall plant at least 01 (one) plant, the plantation done by each Student will be named after his/her Mother, the Plant/Plants planted by each Student shall be watered, nurtured and taken care of during the entire year by the student concerned.
This special plantation drive will have to be completed by June 30, 2024. For saplings/ plants, the District Offices of the Forest Department, Agricultural & Farmers’ Welfare Department & Horticulture Department, Govt. of Tripura may be contacted.
It may be mentioned here that in the Philippines it is mandatory for the students to plant at least 10 trees to get a pass certificate. Even the topper would not get the certificate if he or she cannot not produce documents relating to plantation of 10 trees.
In Tripura students under the banner of Bidhan Shishu Udyan Medha Anwesha run by eminent teacher Manoj Roy has been carrying out plantations in all schools for the last few years.
