As the nation eagerly awaits the results of the Lok Sabha polls, Tripura is set for vote counting on Tuesday, June 4. Anticipation is running high across the state, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) karyakartas preparing for celebrations amid predictions of a landslide victory in both of the state’s parliamentary constituencies.

The exit polls have indicated a strong performance by the BJP, projecting a sweeping win in Tripura’s two Lok Sabha seats. However, the opposition INDI Alliance remains optimistic about their prospects. In the West Tripura parliamentary constituency, BJP’s Biplab Kumar Deb is competing against INDI Bloc’s Ashis Kumar Saha. This seat saw a voter turnout of 81.47 percent during the polling held on April 19

In the East Tripura parliamentary constituency, Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma of the BJP is facing off against INDI Bloc candidate Rajendra Debbarma. The election for this seat took place on April 26, recording an 80.36 percent voter turnout.

Adding to the electoral excitement, the results of the Ramnagar assembly by-polls will also be declared on the same day. Indications suggest a significant victory for BJP candidate Dipak Majumder, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, who is expected to defeat CPM’s former legislator Ratan Das by a substantial margin. The by-poll in Ramnagar was necessitated by the death of sitting BJP MLA Surajit Dutta.

The new Lok Sabha MPs from Tripura will replace the current Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik in West Tripura and Rebati Tripura in the East Tripura parliamentary seat. The BJP’s confidence is bolstered by these anticipated changes, with preparations in full swing for celebrating what they hope will be a decisive victory and the return of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for a third term.

On Monday, the BJP’s state election management committee, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, convened at the state party office to discuss various aspects of the counting process. The state election machinery is fully equipped to ensure a smooth and peaceful counting process, with all necessary preparations in place

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, Puneet Agarwal, announced that the counting would commence at 8 a.m. on June 4 at 20 locations across the state. For the West Tripura parliamentary constituency, votes will be counted in 7 locations, while the East Tripura constituency will have votes counted in 15 locations. In total, there will be 60 counting halls across the two constituencies.

The CEO also emphasized the security measures in place, with each counting center featuring three-tier security arrangements and comprehensive CCTV coverage in counting halls, strong rooms, and corridors. Media centers will be available at all counting centers, although journalists will be restricted to these areas with their mobile phones.

To ensure transparency and order, 31 counting observers have been appointed by the Election Commission of India. Real-time results will be available on the official ECI website and the voter helpline app. Agarwal called for public cooperation to maintain peace and order during the counting process, noting that a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. will be enforced within a 100-meter radius of counting centers.
