It was coming and it was the writing on the wall.
The controversial MD of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd TSECL MS Kele faced public wrath, especially the contractors in the open. They rained abuses and forcefully took him out of the car when Kele tried to leave the state stealthily. He was almost physically assaulted.
MS Kele who was from the very beginning faced serious allegations of nepotism, blatant corruption and financial irregularities and ignoring the local interests as well as inefficiency and incompetence , managed to get extension even after his term was over. However, his extension time also ended this month, Kele was planning to leave the state silently as he could guess the gathering storm, especially not paying the contractors their dues for years. There were also increasing demand for probe into his alleged corruption , before he left the state. Several TSECL employees had to take voluntary Retirement for his acts.
The contractors and others who gheraoed him accused him stealing money from Tripura. “You thief, you stole our money and made Rs 200 crore . Now you think you can leave like this. You will be taught a good lesson , you thief. We know how you misapprorpriated government money”, they were heard saying.
Kele went to Tripura Sundari temple this morning and planned to leave Agartala today itself. But as soon as he came to TSECL office about 100 hundred contractors and others gheraoed him and forcibly brought him out of the car. They rained unrestrained abuses and threatened to physically assault him if he failed to settle their dues.
Huge tension gripped the TSECL office. A meeting is now underway in the TSECL conference hall.
When asked one TSECL engineer said, it is almost akin to VL Dharurkar case- the VIce Chancellor who slipped out of the state after committing financial irregularities and openly taking bribes. This time only difference that Kele could not slip out. He was caught.
