Border Security Force of Tripura Frontier has intensified ‘smart surveillance’ along the International border in Tripura with various electronic gadgets and systems being put in place.

 Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier- Susant Kumar Nath on Tuesday addressing a press conference said, BSF Tripura Frontier has taken initiatives to install smart surveillance system (24 physical location involving 95 smart surveillance cameras) to enhance the border domination in most smuggling and infiltration prone areas.

He also said the BSF Tripura Frontier took several initiatives in completing the border fencing works. During 2021, eight pending gaps of Single Row Fence (SRF) were fully completed and plugged. Similarly, the SRF work is in progress in other unfenced stretches.

The BSF Tripura also blocked 44 Nullah and culverts by fixing iron gates in various parts of the state specially in the eastern part.

Elaborating the operational achievements, the Border Security Force in Tripura apprehended total 221 persons for illegally crossing border in the year 2021.

The IG BSF Tripura Frontier said, “The BSF Tripura Frontier has been able to apprehend total 221 persons — 97 Bangladeshi nationals, 118 Indian Nationals and six from other foreign nationals– while attempting to cross the border illegally.”

As part of its continuous efforts to check trans-border crimes, the BSF Tripura also seized huge quantity of contraband items having total value of around Rs. 35.64 crore.

The seizures included 88,417 Yaba Tablets, 13,206.99 kgs Dry Ganja, 48,200 bottles of Phensedyl / Eskuf Syrup, 8,939 bottles of liquor, 2,422 cattle heads and large number of other articles including medicines worth Rs. 41,84,137, 16,165 Garments / Sarees worth Rs. 75,45,722 and assorted contraband Items worth Rs. 17,78,83,678, the IG BSF Tripura Frontier said. 

The BSF along with other sister agencies and independent raids destroyed 45,07,039 Ganja plants worth Rs. 24,14,75,000 in interior areas.

Apart from guarding the international border with Bangladesh, the Tripura Frontier BSF also carried out various civic action programmes, sports activities and social cause activities.

In Tripura, BSF has been entrusted with the responsibility of guarding 856 km international Border with Bangladesh.  Over the years, BSF Tripura Frontier has been performing multifarious responsibilities, in fighting the insurgency, in maintaining the sanctity of the border as well as in preventing all kind of trans-border crimes, while working under adverse climatic conditions in remote & inhospitable topography and highly malaria epidemic zones in the most part of its operational areas.

During the year 2021, BSF Tripura Frontier maintained strong vigil on the border to prevent trans-border movement of insurgents, particularly in the eastern segment of the state. In view of constant pursuance by BSF Formations, six active Insurgents of NFLT (BM) Cadres surrendered before BSF Tripura Frontier during the year 2021, taking the total number of insurgents surrendered before BSF till date to 31.
