Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee attacked BJP for using central agencies to harass Opposition leaders. On Saturday (6th April 2024), at an election campaign at Raiganj parliamentary constituency, she said that the BJP has used the Central agency to arrest Hemanta Soren and Arvind Kejriwal. Ms Banerjee alleged that today’s NIA arrest was politically motivated.

BJP State President Dr Sukanto Majumdar said that the law and order situation in West Bengal has deteriorated and if action is not taken now West Bengal will replicate Afghanistan one day. Opposition leader in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged on social media platforms that Mamata Banerjee is instigating people against central agencies. He added that recently in a political campaign at Mathabhanga of Coochbehar, Ms Banerjee instigated common people against NIA. He requested the Election Commission to take action against the Officer-in-charge (OC) of the local police station, the SDPO of Contai, the district Superintendent of Police and the DG of the State police.

Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, however, said that the attack on NIA is unfortunate.
