On the occasion of Kokborok Day Tripura government decided to change the name of Gandacherra and Atharamura hill range.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a programme celebrating Kokborok Day on Wednesday announced that from now on Gandacherra would be known as ‘Gandatuisa’ and Atharamura would be known as ‘Hachuk Berem’.
Earlier, the state government had changed the name of Baramura as ‘Hataikotor’.
“Tripura government is committed to protect, preserve and improve the Kokborok language as well as indigenous culture and heritage. Several programmes and schemes in this direction. The change of the names of the places directly linked with indigenous people and their life is part of this only”, said the Chief Minister .
Among others Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia , MLA Dr Atul Debbarma and other senior officials were present in the programme held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.
