Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for Indian Oil’s new depot at Sekerkote in Agartala virtually from Itangar.

This depot is being constructed at an investment of Rs. 656 crore with a projected throughput of 323 TKLPA (~ 1077 KL per day) for Financial Year 29-30.

This new rail-fed depot aims to meet future energy demands and generate livelihoods during the construction and operation phase. 

Emphasizing on ensuring accessible and affordable energy for all, Modi said, “We have embarked on an ambitious journey on Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and are significantly expanding our energy infrastructure at an unprecedented scale. I am happy to share that this project is expected to generate approximately 10.90 lakh man-hours per annum during the construction phase. The depot will supply petroleum products to the entire state of Tripura and meet the ever-increasing energy demand in the state.” 

Indian Oil Corporation Limited organised  event at Sekerkote depot to celebrate the inauguration of foundation stone laying by the Prime Minister by live telecasting in presence of Deputy Speaker, Ram Prasad Paul, Kamalasagar Constituency MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, Executive Director ( Retail Sales) of Indian Oil AOD state Office, Rajesh Nambiar,  Additional Secretary  and Director Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affair, Nirmal Adhikari, Sadar Sub-divisional Magistrate, Manik  Lal Das, Deputy General Manager Engineering of IOCL Head Office, Pradip Kumar Baro, Pradhan of Sekerkote  Gram Panchayat Dipti Dey and State level Coordinator Tripura for Oil and Gas Industries, Pramit Kumar Dhar,  Divisional Retail Head at Silchar Divisional Office, Himanshu Sharma.

On welcome Speech Nambiar, Executive Director (Retail Sales), IOAOD SO said, this Sekerkote Depot Project will strengthen the fuel security of the State where IOCL is having more than 85 percent of Market presence at present and in coming days in case of any logistic disturbances also the Depot will make the State more self-dependent and undisturbed in the field of fuel. He expressed hope that the construction of the depot would be completed within the next two years.

DGM Baro has given a brief about the project that it is going to have a capacity of 20800 Kilo Liter capacity, 4 times higher than the existing Depot capacity at Dharmanagar Depot.

 

In the address by the Deputy Speaker elaborated the vision of the PM where development of North East is his one of the important key parameters.

Paul stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working with the dream of ‘No demand only development’.”

He emphasized that the development of the North Eastern states is attributable to Narendra Modi, evident through the developmental initiatives taken for the region.

Talking about the depot in Agartala, Paul highlighted its significance as a great opportunity, as it will meet the energy demands of the state, especially during the rainy season when road connectivity with other parts of the country is disrupted due to landslides and other natural calamities.

He mentioned that with the establishment of the depot, there will be no shortage of fuel and the black marketing of fuel will come under control.

Dhar on his vote of thanks praised the support and trust rendered by the state government and the public.

Later, the guests unveiled the foundation stone of the new depot at the premises of the Indian Oil’s new depot in Sekerkote.
