Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Mayor Dipak Majumder unveiled a comprehensive budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, amounting to a substantial Rs 416.74 crore. Presenting the 9th budget of the AMC under the Tripura Municipal Act 1994, Mayor Majumder highlighted various aspects of the financial plan aimed at fostering growth and development within the city.

One notable aspect of the budget presentation was the absence of any proposed new taxes. Instead, Mayor Majumder underscored the critical importance of timely tax payments by citizens to bolster revenue collection. Addressing reporters, he emphasized that prompt tax payments could significantly mitigate the projected deficit of Rs 75-76 lakh, thus ensuring the financial stability of the corporation.

To address the deficit and enhance revenue streams, the budget outlines a strategic focus on revenue collection through advanced methodologies such as GIS-based unpaid wealth tax and trade licenses. This approach seeks to optimize existing resources without burdening citizens with additional direct taxes, thereby promoting fiscal sustainability within the corporation.

A substantial portion of the proposed budget, totaling Rs. 31377.15 lakhs, is allocated for capital expenditure in the fiscal year 2024-25. Mayor Majumder highlighted that these funds would primarily be channeled towards critical projects aimed at improving essential amenities and infrastructure within the city. Major areas of focus include the enhancement of the drinking water system, waste management, drainage infrastructure, and the revitalization of market stalls, among others.

Mayor Majumder also commended the efforts of the BJP-led AMC in recent years, emphasizing the corporation’s commitment to multifaceted development initiatives. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to addressing key priorities such as infrastructure development, road maintenance, drainage systems, and street lighting, catering to the evolving needs and demands of city residents.

Furthermore, the Mayor outlined several upcoming projects aimed at enhancing the city’s recreational and civic amenities. Plans include the establishment of a modern Coffee House at the Children’s Park premises, the installation of open gyms across all wards, and the renovation of markets, among other initiatives.

Addressing pressing concerns such as inadequate access to drinking water in certain areas, Mayor Majumder expressed confidence in resolving these issues through collaborative efforts involving the AMC, the Department of Public Works (DWS), and the Jal Board. He reassured citizens that concerted measures would be implemented to enhance reservoir development and implement effective solid waste management strategies, particularly in flood-prone areas.
